Best Protein Bars for Ozempic Users
Ozempic (semaglutide) slows digestion and shrinks appetite, so most of what you eat has to earn its place. The bars below meet the same verified standard as all our GLP-1 bar rankings: at least 18g of protein in 200 calories or less, with tight sugar and fat caps, ordered by protein per calorie, then absence of certain sugar alcohols, then fiber, then smaller bar size (less to finish on a small appetite). This page focuses on what is specific to semaglutide: the side effects that shape which bars people actually finish, what changes on Wegovy, and eating around your weekly shot. Every value is transcribed and verified from the manufacturer’s nutrition label.

Bars marked “contains maltitol” include a sugar alcohol some people prefer to avoid. What are sugar alcohols?
Eating around your weekly shot
Many people report appetite is weakest, and nausea most likely, in the first day or two after injecting. On those days users commonly keep portions small, eat protein first and avoid rich or very sweet foods. A smaller high protein bar you can actually finish beats a bigger one you abandon, which is why bar size is one of our tiebreakers. If nausea disrupts eating for days at a time, raise it with your prescriber.
Why these criteria?
Ozempic (semaglutide) slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite, so many users find they eat far smaller portions. Clinicians commonly advise prioritising protein to help preserve lean mass while losing weight. A bar that packs 18g+ of protein into 200 calories or less makes that easier; the low sugar and moderate fat caps reflect the lighter, less rich foods many users say they tolerate best.
Does this list apply to Wegovy?
Yes. Wegovy is the same medication as Ozempic (semaglutide), approved at different doses for weight management rather than type 2 diabetes. The same high protein, low sugar criteria apply, so this list is equally relevant if you take Wegovy.
What about Mounjaro and Zepbound?
Mounjaro and Zepbound are tirzepatide, a different medication with a similar effect on appetite. The nutrition criteria on this page don’t depend on which drug you take (they describe the bar, not the medication), so the list is the same. We track the label data; your care team tracks the rest.
The criteria and the research
The thresholds behind this list, why each one exists, and the research on sugar alcohols are explained in full on our GLP-1 protein bars page, the home of the criteria every page in this series shares.
Others worth considering
These lines hit the key standard, a strong protein to calorie ratio, but each misses the strict criteria on one debatable point, noted below. Depending on your priorities they can still be a solid pick; the note is something to weigh up, not a hard line.
Barebells Protein Bar18 flavours checked; closest: Caramel Cashew- first protein is caseinate: casein digests more slowly than the whey based options we prioritise (see research notes)
ONE Protein Bar10 flavours checked; closest: Birthday Cake- 220 kcal, just over the 200 kcal cap
Why some popular bars miss the cut
Product lines where no flavour meets the criteria, and what the label analysis surfaced for each line’s closest flavour. This updates automatically as products are verified and reformulations are checked again. If you simply want the most protein per calorie regardless of these criteria, see the highest protein bars ranking.

How this ranking works
- Every nutrition value is transcribed from the manufacturer’s published nutrition label and verified by hand, with no third party food databases.
- Product lines are ranked, not individual flavours, so one product’s 20 flavours can’t fill the list. Each entry shows its best scoring flavour.
- A maximum of two lines per brand keeps the list diverse.
- Labels that don’t state sugar or fiber are treated as unknown (never as zero) and are excluded from sugar and fiber rankings.
- Want to hit a daily protein target? The Protein Pal app lets you scan any label and track your protein day by day.
Frequently asked questions
- How much protein do people on Ozempic aim for?
- Published guidance for people losing weight on GLP-1 medications commonly cites 1.2–1.6g of protein per kg of body weight per day to help preserve lean mass, but individual targets vary; your prescriber or dietitian sets yours. Protein Pal’s calculator has a GLP-1 mode if you want a starting estimate to discuss with them.
- Why do these bars have so little sugar?
- The 2g cap mirrors what many GLP-1 users report looking for: with a much smaller appetite, foods high in sugar crowd out protein without helping satiety. Bars on this list are typically sweetened with stevia, allulose, sucralose or sugar alcohols instead; each product page lists exactly which.
- Why do sugar alcohols, fiber and bar size affect the ranking?
- Among bars with equally strong protein per calorie scores, we rank bars without certain sugar alcohols (maltitol, sorbitol, xylitol, isomalt, mannitol, lactitol) first, then bars with more fiber, then smaller bars. To be clear about the evidence: a single bar contains well below the doses where studies find symptoms in healthy adults. The ordering is a precaution for sensitive people (these sugar alcohols are excluded from low FODMAP diets used for irritable bowel syndrome, and people with sensitive digestion report symptoms at lower doses), for anyone eating several sugar free products a day, and because GLP-1 medications commonly cause gastrointestinal side effects of their own; no study has tested the combination directly. Erythritol is not penalised because it is mostly absorbed and excreted unchanged. Fiber contributes to satiety, and a smaller bar is simply easier to finish when appetite is suppressed. Bars containing these sugar alcohols still appear, clearly marked, and the research is linked at the bottom of this page.
- Are these bars easier to tolerate on days with nausea?
- We can’t make tolerance claims; that varies person to person and is a conversation for your care team. What we can tell you is what’s on the label: some users prefer to check the sugar alcohol content of a bar, which is listed on every product page here, since sugar alcohols like maltitol are known to cause gastrointestinal discomfort in larger amounts (research linked below).
