Best Protein Water

Protein water promises shake levels of protein in a clear, fruity drink. The bottles below are ranked by protein per 100 calories, the efficiency number that separates a serious 20g bottle from flavored water with a protein sticker. Collagen led drinks are excluded because collagen is not a complete protein. All values verified from manufacturer labels.

Whey isolate or nothing

Every ranked bottle leads with whey protein isolate, the complete, leucine rich protein that clear drinks are built on. Collagen based waters look identical on the shelf but contribute far less to muscle per gram, so they do not qualify for this list.

Why protein per 100 calories

A good protein water delivers around 20g of protein for 90 calories or less, which beats almost every shake and bar on the market on efficiency. Ranking by protein per calorie makes the weak bottles, some of which carry under 10g, easy to spot.

How this ranking works

  • Every nutrition value is transcribed from the manufacturer’s published nutrition label and verified by hand, with no third party food databases.
  • Product lines are ranked, not individual flavours, so one product’s 20 flavours can’t fill the list. Each entry shows its best scoring flavour.
  • A maximum of two lines per brand keeps the list diverse.
  • Labels that don’t state sugar or fiber are treated as unknown (never as zero) and are excluded from sugar and fiber rankings.
  • Want to hit a daily protein target? The Protein Pal app lets you scan any label and track your protein day by day.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as protein water?
A clear, still or lightly flavored drink whose protein comes from dissolved whey protein isolate, typically 15 to 20g per bottle at 70 to 90 calories. Milky ready-to-drink shakes are a separate category with their own rankings.
Why are collagen drinks excluded?
Collagen is an incomplete protein: it is missing tryptophan and low in leucine, so it supports muscle protein synthesis far less per gram than whey isolate. A collagen bottle claiming 10g of protein is not comparable to a whey isolate bottle claiming the same number.
Is protein water good on Ozempic or other GLP-1 medications?
It is one of the most efficient options when appetite is low: a typical bottle carries 15g of complete protein in 60 to 90 calories, less volume and fewer calories than a milky shake. Most bottles on this list would meet the caps we use on our GLP-1 shake rankings. It also counts toward hydration, which matters because GLP-1 users commonly under drink.
