Protein Powders Without Artificial Sweeteners

These powders contain none of the four main artificial sweeteners: sucralose, acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), aspartame or saccharin, verified against the full ingredient statement of every flavour. Plant derived sweeteners (stevia, monk fruit) are allowed, as is regular sugar. Most mainstream whey powders sweeten with sucralose, which is why this list skews toward organic and minimal ingredient brands. Ranked by protein per 100 calories.

What “no artificial sweeteners” means on this page

A powder qualifies only when its captured ingredient list contains none of sucralose, acesulfame potassium, aspartame or saccharin. Stevia and monk fruit are naturally derived and do not disqualify a powder. Some entries here use no sweetener at all; those taste plain by design and are meant for blending into smoothies or recipes.

How this ranking works

  • Every nutrition value is transcribed from the manufacturer’s published nutrition label and verified by hand, with no third party food databases.
  • Product lines are ranked, not individual flavours, so one product’s 20 flavours can’t fill the list. Each entry shows its best scoring flavour.
  • A maximum of two lines per brand keeps the list diverse.
  • Labels that don’t state sugar or fiber are treated as unknown (never as zero) and are excluded from sugar and fiber rankings.
  • Want to hit a daily protein target? The Protein Pal app lets you scan any label and track your protein day by day.

Frequently asked questions

Are stevia and monk fruit artificial sweeteners?
No. Stevia (steviol glycosides) and monk fruit extract are derived from plants. Regulators and most consumer usage treat “artificial sweeteners” as the synthetic set: sucralose, acesulfame potassium, aspartame and saccharin, which is the definition this page uses.
Are there completely unsweetened protein powders?
Yes, though only a couple of lines in our database qualify: Naked Whey and Naked Pea contain a single ingredient each and no sweetener of any kind. Orgain also makes a Natural Unsweetened flavour. Everything else on this page is sweetened with stevia or monk fruit rather than nothing at all.
Why do most protein powders use sucralose?
It is intensely sweet at tiny doses, heat stable, and adds no calories or sugar to the label, which makes low sugar flavour systems much easier to build. That is also why avoiding it narrows the field as sharply as this list shows.
Why is collagen not on this list?
Unflavoured collagen powders contain no sweeteners at all, but collagen is an incomplete protein missing tryptophan, so ranking it against complete proteins on protein per calorie would overstate what it contributes to muscle. All our powder rankings exclude collagen led products for the same reason.
