Best High Protein Yogurt

Every Greek yogurt and skyr cup below is ranked by protein per 100 calories: how much protein you get for the calories you spend. That single number separates the cups built around protein from the ones that are dessert with a protein claim, because fruit preparations and creamier milk both add calories without adding protein. Sugar is shown for every flavour. All values are transcribed and verified from the manufacturer’s label. Chasing the biggest absolute number? See the highest protein yogurts ranked by grams per cup. Why sugar decides so much here

Plain nonfat Greek yogurt and skyr are naturally protein dense: the milk sugar that remains after straining is modest, and nothing else competes with the protein. Fruit on the bottom and dessert flavours can double the sugar and add 40 or more calories per cup, which is why the same brand can appear high and low in this table depending on flavour. Tap any column to re-sort by protein, calories or sugar.

Greek yogurt, skyr and blended cups

Greek yogurt and Icelandic skyr are both strained; skyr is typically strained further, which is why siggi’s and Icelandic Provisions cups read thick with moderate sugar. Blended and “zero sugar” cups reach low calorie numbers with sweeteners instead of straining. All three styles qualify here as long as the cup carries at least 10g of protein; the ranking sorts out which approach delivers.

Where is cottage cheese?

Cottage cheese competes with these cups on protein and often wins, but it is not yogurt, so listing it here would quietly pad the table. It has its own place in our high protein dairy hub, and our Greek yogurt vs skyr vs cottage cheese guide compares the three styles directly.

How this ranking works

  • Every nutrition value is transcribed from the manufacturer’s published nutrition label and verified by hand, with no third party food databases.
  • Product lines are ranked, not individual flavours, so one product’s 20 flavours can’t fill the list. Each entry shows its best scoring flavour.
  • A maximum of two lines per brand keeps the list diverse.
  • Labels that don’t state sugar or fiber are treated as unknown (never as zero) and are excluded from sugar and fiber rankings.
  • Want to hit a daily protein target? The Protein Pal app lets you scan any label and track your protein day by day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best high protein yogurt?
The table above is the answer we can defend: every verified Greek yogurt and skyr cup with at least 10g of protein, ranked by protein per 100 calories with sugar as a tiebreaker. The strongest cups deliver 15 to 20g of protein per 100 calories; plain nonfat cups dominate because nothing dilutes the protein.
Is Greek yogurt or skyr higher in protein?
Per cup they are close: typical Greek yogurt cups carry 15 to 20g and skyr cups 12 to 16g. The bigger difference is flavour choice: fruit and dessert versions of either style carry more sugar and more calories for the same protein, which the table makes visible flavour by flavour.
What yogurt has the most protein?
Among verified US cups, ratio PROTEIN leads on absolute grams at 25g per cup, followed by 20g cups from Oikos Pro and Chobani. The highest protein yogurt ranking lists them by grams per cup.
Is high protein yogurt good for weight loss?
It is one of the most efficient protein sources in the grocery store: high protein for modest calories, and the protein and thickness both help satiety. No single food causes weight loss, but replacing a low protein snack with a 15 to 20g yogurt cup is one of the easier swaps to sustain.
