Protein Source

Where the 30g of protein comes from, largest contributor first

Milk Protein Concentrate
Complete

Complete protein. Roughly 80% casein and 20% whey, so it digests slower than whey alone.

Caseinate
Complete

Complete protein. Slow digesting, releasing amino acids over several hours.

Also Contains

Seed Oils

  • High Oleic Sunflower Oil

A seed oil from varieties bred so most of the fat is monounsaturated oleic acid, the same fat that dominates olive oil, with far less of the omega-6 linoleic acid that standard versions carry. The FDA allows a qualified health claim that replacing saturated fat with high oleic oils may reduce coronary heart disease risk. The high oleic profile also makes the oil much more stable against oxidation.

FDA qualified health claim for oleic acid oils (2018)

Emulsifiers & Thickeners

  • Cellulose Gum

Also called carboxymethylcellulose, a thickener. A randomised controlled feeding trial in healthy adults found it altered gut bacteria and reduced the protective mucus layer of the gut. The trial was small and short.

    Chassaing et al., Gastroenterology (2022)
  • Carrageenan

A seaweed extract used to stop drinks separating. Animal and cell studies report inflammation and irritation of the gut lining. Human evidence at the levels used in food is limited, and regulators currently consider it safe.

    Tobacman, Environmental Health Perspectives (2001)

Stimulants

  • Caffeine

A stimulant, and ingredient lists rarely state the amount. The EU safety authority puts single doses of no concern at 200mg and habitual daily intake at 400mg for healthy adults, lower in pregnancy.

EFSA opinion on the safety of caffeine (2015)
